Because mean, judgmental family members put me in the Christmas spirit

I've never seen characters so cruel in a film before.

reply

Agreed. Such an awful film. I was surprised to see the current ranking. Thought it would be much lower.

I know, they made up their minds about her before they even met her. Since she was important to their son, they should have given her a chance, and not pass judgement before meeting her.

reply

The dinner table scene made me feel genuine anger and uncomfortable because they were screaming at a house guest. I understand what she meant, she just couldn't put it in the right words.

reply

Sara Jessica Parker's character had already slighted the whole family before the dinner scene. The family wanted to be fun and trade good natured barbs but she took everything so seriously that she altered the quirky snarky family tone and they in turn became hostile and defensive. She had a freak flag but refused to let it fly.

But Meredith wasn't the family...she just had a different personality. More quiet. I would feel like an outsider with that family too until I warmed up to them. Just because she was a bit awkward and different was no reason to be so rude to her.

reply

Are you kidding? Meredith didn't know when the hell to shut up! That was the problem. She saw how much they liked her sister, so she tried competing with her by asking more questions. When it didn't come out the way she wanted it to, even though EVERYONE was already obviously very uncomfortable, she still kept blabbing on and on, repeating the exact, same thing she said that made them uncomfortable in the first place.

reply

Agree, If it was me in her place I wouldn't want anything to do with these people

reply

They are an absolutely vile family.

reply

I agree they were vile. I would have left.
