I hated Amy and Sybil the most.
I genuinely felt soooo bad for Meredith. Yes, she had her weird quirks but she was never rude or disrespectful to anyone. She just didn't know how to act open with his family and sometimes that's hard for people. It also doesn't help when Amy is already poisoning the family's thoughts on Meredith before she even shows up.
I think my favorite character was Ben. He was the only one that was so accepting (mainly because he liked her).
Very tough call on that. I would go with your picks though. But I did despise that family.

I genuinely hated these people. They were smug, self important hateful people. Except for the Luke Wilson character. He and Clare Danes were about the only ones I could stomach.
I wonder if that's what the writer and or director was trying to achieve?
It seems odd that super liberal Hollywood would portray their own kind in such a way. I could understand if it was satire, but this was played straight.
I never thought I could hate any character played by Diane Keaton, but she was truly awful.
I left this movie thoroughly depressed and angry.
Amy was a spoiled brat, and Sybil was the typical judgmental overbearing mother, but Thad took the cake. Sure, he was deaf, and Meredith was awkward and didn't know how to talk to a deaf person (much less anyone, really), but he was so flipping rude to her. Just about every time he was in a scene with her, he'd talk about her as if she wasn't there: "Why is she yelling". Ugh! How he ever got a sweet guy like Patrick is beyond me.

Everyone loved her and I couldn't understand why. She was boring. A real nothing personality. May have come across differently in the hands of another actress but Danes did nothing to bring this girl to life.
