THE FORGOTTEN vs. FLIGHTPLAN

THE FORGOTTEN (2004) and FLIGHTPLAN (2005) were both thrillers that deal with mothers trying to prove their sanity and that their children really exist. Which one do you prefer and why?

reply

*possible spoilers*

I prefer Flightplan.

In the Forgotten, you find out that the mother really does have a son in 15 minutes. Then you follow endless chase scenes before you find out it is aliens.

Flightplan takes the "child doesn't exist" idea on until about 50 minutes, then you find out that the child is being kept on the plane by a criminal.

Basically, both movies are terrible, but if I had to choose, I would take the one that encourages the "doesn't exist" theory and keeps the climax in reality.

Flightplan!

reply

Flightplan.

Even though both movies could have been better and suffered major plotholes, Flightplan's ending is not as ridiculous and didn't take the easy way out. Not to mention the presence of Foster. I never really cared about Julianne Moore's character; therefore, didn't care if she ever became vindicated or not.

reply

I prefer Flightplan to The Forgotten.

The Forgotten is alogical
i expected that it would be all about a woman's psychology
but is is NOT.its all about weird creatures called Aliens and their nonsene experiment.

Flightplan is all about a woman's psychology.she was trying to find herself in everyway.sanity? reality? everything was a dream or everything is real.she didnt care what people say,she used her head, one step, 2 steps and HAPPY ENDING!

reply

The Forgotten is better cos it had aliens. HELL YEAH. I'm serious.

Actually, it is. Though it does have a different meaning than the poster intended.

"Alogical" is not a word.

Flightplan made more sense. At least there was a clear, well-thought-out motive for hiding the girl, although it was still unlikely that she wouldn't be seen. Forgotten--no motive plus totally unrealistic otherwise.

reply

humm, let me be infamous and prefer the forgotten (one of the best movies of 2004 :P)

In flight plan you actually "see" the kid right from the beginning and theres a life being lived, in the forgotten, you don't have that sense, it actually starts with the missing drama.

Forgotten might not have much sense in the way of "being real" but I don't think about this movie like that so I dont see it as a problem. The loose ends in the movie makes you imagine stuff..

btsides, I don't think much of the missing child factor in flightplan, the terrorists just don't seem to have much more motive than "money" and they could have given alot more "bitchyness" to that hostess who took part in it..

reply

Flightplan. At least there was a story, and it was actually possible unlike this waste-of-film movie. *sigh* 90 minutes of my life I'll never get back :(

What about Red Eye?

reply

90 minutes of my life I'll never get back :(
Anyone who uses this idiotic cliche' should be instantly disregarded.

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

reply

Yes, Flightplan did make more sense. Which really says exactly how terribly constructed and illogical The Forgotten was, seeing as Flightplan made about as much sense as a deepsea flyswatter.

reply

If you want to see the ur-version of this plot, how about THE LADY VANISHES by Alfred Hitchcock? And nobody gets sucked into the "eye in the sky."

reply

I have no clue what is wrong with you people. First of all, Flightplan was basically copying off of The Forgotten which makes it less original. The Forgotten had more of a theme and was much more moodier and thematical then Flightplan and has a period in which it takes place over time instead of in just one night. Both are amazing films, but the Forgotten was much better.

The answer to the ultimate question; of life, the universe, and everything is.........42

reply

Let me help...I've seen both movies TWICE! (Thanks wife!) We've both come to the conclusion that they both EAT! Not at all good flicks...just keep moving, there's nothing to see here....

reply

Bunny Lake Is Missing (1965) is the original. Both movies rip it off, and now there's Bunny Lake Is Missing (2007) with Reese Witherspoon. There's just something about a mother proving her child exists as well as her sanity that just has post-9/11 America riveted!

reply

It's not just post 9/11, but people in general. To be able to prove your sanity is a gift, and a mother's love is unmatched by any other.

reply

The Lady Vanishes came out 27 years earlier.

reply

Flightplan was already written and in production when The Forgotten was released so your "Flightplan was basically copying off of The Forgotten which makes it less original" arguement is completely moot.

reply

Don't you think those in the movie business know what is being filmed "in production", so it is still possible that someone got wind of a decent thriller script and decided to do their own version.

reply

wow...by FAR flightplan

Forgotten took the easy way out by putting aliens into the movie. If flightplan had holes in its plot, forgotten had craters in its plot.

FLIGHTPLAN!!!

reply

The Forgotten- it was one of the few movies EVER that actually really made me sit on the edge of my seat throught the movie...fightplan seems like a ripoff of the forgotten...but that's just my opinion, i dont know what's wrong with you guys but the forgotten is really good...but again that's my opinion

The first thing I thought over the similarities of Jodie Foster and Julianne Moore's characters and indeed the plot of these films was the fact that they both played Clarice Starling in the Lector films. Coincidence?

I preferred Flight Plan. Forgotten gave too much away too early in the movie whereas Flight Plan waited longer to reveal what was going on and it kept you in suspense longer as well.

reply

I like both movies!
Eventhough when I watched Flightplan, I knew there was going to be a happy ending.
With 'The Forgotten', I had no clue on how it would end!

Flightplan, definitely.

Flightplan.

Catherine: Alone?
Gil: No. Sometimes I have a beer with it.

reply

It is to totally different movies, so why put them up against each other. Yes a child is missing in both movies, but they are not the same. Flightplan is a mother seacing for her child, while the child has been kidnaped. The forgotten is about a women you is seacing for her son, but the movie is really about aliens who cant understand humans. The forgottens is more like war of the worlds then it is like FLightplan, because is it about how the bund between mother-child works.

The forgotten and the FLightplan are both great movies and I cant say that one is better then the other

uh oh... battle of the clarices... flphthlpfphlplhlflphlp

reply

I watched Flightplan 3 times first, and then The Forgotten, but i liked The Forgotten istantly the first time.

reply

Jodie Foster wins the battle of the Clarices with out a question. But Julianne and Jodie were both great in the Forgotten and Flightplan, even when both movies weren't great.
