Incredibly scary. Seriously.

Possibly one of my top three scary movies of all time. The sad thing is, it doesn't get the recognition it deserves, especially when it's done without any use of explicit violence, blood or gore. This new generation can't recognize a good movie when they see one.

If life isn't beauty, then what is?

It's not the Y(Why?) generation's ignorance, as much as it's the ADHD mindest of the Y(Why?) generation. They're attention span is so short, bomb explosions and car crashes have to happen at least every 10 seconds or they're bored.

The (Why?) means why did humanity have to go there? We've regressed or devolved. But they delude themselves into believing they are an advancement

That literally doesn't make any sense. Generation Y is only ADHD because of the culture they were born into, a culture created by the previous generations. How could it be possible that an entire generation magically birthed itself into ADHD? To answers your "why?", if any part of humanity is to be blamed it is the recent generations, not humanity entirely. You are looking down on an entire generation of people for "considering themselves an advancement" while in the same exact post you are talking about how your own generation *beep* up those advancements. What are you even trying to say? Are you just venting about something and blaming it on gen y?

That's a typical Gen Why response, complete with the woefully overused word "literally".

You're misinterpreting me, I didn't say they have ADHD necessarily, I said "ADHD mindset" which implies it shares similarities. And I don't care who's to blame, the fact is the (Why?) generation is *beep*ed up and they do think they are more highly evolved. With your issue being that it was the previous generations fault, how does that disprove my point?

The previous generations would have, for example, outgrown childish things such as Pokemon, but your generation has 20 to 30 year olds, of the male gender no less, out chasing those silly little characters, intended for small children.

No, in no way do I say that. That's your narrow-minded interpretation of what I said. What I actually did say, is that Gen (Why?) is a strange, malfunctioning lot, that has the nerve to call themselves advanced. It's the generation that thinks pornography is mainstream, that drugs are a good thing, that God is a fairy tale, that's cross-dressing is a rational choice and that homosexuality is perfectly natural.

It's unusual to find a Gen (Why?) that doesn't believe those things. How 'bout you give me some hope for the future and show me how you don't conform?

I agree with you(likely because of far-too-much bizarre phenomena I have encountered in life) wholeheartedly: I had chills plenty....

Wholeheartedly agree. It's a subtle scariness... which is why I think many don't appreciate it or get it. That's not to say they're missing something themselves, but some people just need a more overt presentation.

Some of the sequences really freaked me out on the first viewing. The ending was chilling. And to me, Act III didn't blow itself up like many movies in this sort of style do. The first two acts are great and fascinating, and it all falls apart in the end. This one held through to the end.

Really enjoyed it!

Really? Is it the 'new generation' that "can't recognize a good scary movie when they see one"? Or is it [i]you[i] who can't recognize a good scary movie? After all, you're the one who says this (forgettable and tedious) movie has made your list of "scariest movies of all time"

Really, it all just comes down to a matter of opinion. Has nothing to do with this new generation.

No, it has everything to do with the "new generation." Horror movies are now nothing but jump scares. Laughable.

reply

Then blame the new generation directors, not the new generation of movie-goers. We're not at fault for what's in the movies that we're given.

Nailed it. No suspense, no plot, no character development, just cheap jump scares. This is the only horrifying thing about modern 'horror'.

reply

I go with blaming the directors. Blow-up movies are easier. Movies with build-up of tension are harder, and come only from the best. Not all directors can be the best.

As far as generations go, I'd like to point out there were plenty of crap movies made all throughout the 20th century. I know, I was there for half of it, and watched plenty of bad movies on TV from the first half. In fact, I remember thinking all black and white movies were junk, until I got on this site and starting unearthing the gems. So let's not play holier than thou, shall we?

I agree that much of the viewing public need special effects, violence, fast paced plot lines, and tons of blood and gore or else need to double their doses of ADHD meds to follow this flick. Me and my room mate have been pretty tough on the Octoberfest Horror Movies, with a collective age of 96, it was the subtle things that really surprised us and it plays into my own conspiracy theories involving President Truman's agreement with extra-terrestrials or inter-dimensional beings, that they could take X number of people and X number of cattle, animals, etc.

Decent flick but not scary at all, to me.

reply

Not scary at all just stupid... If the older generation find movies that have ridiculous plot twists and endings that make no sense "scary", well that says more about them than the younger generations. Now 'Rosemary's Baby' is an older film which handles subtle scares so well and has similar themes... that's why it's considered a horror classic while The Forgotten is considered an absolute dud mess of a film.
