I didn't follow the part about Helen Hayes, the detective asks about her. Was she in some classic heist film or something?

She is a famous actress who died years ago - is also James MacArthur's mother (Danno from Hawaii 5-0). Sam used Helen Hayes as an alias when she called the jeweller to warn them about the heist.
