(spoilers) Not INTENDED to be a professional-qualit y f ilm.

Look, if this film were made to professional quality standards, Smack and Hellfire would have lost their artistic freedom. Just like Romero lost his when his zombies went pro.

Smack and Hellfire roasted everybody. Notice that the black student was abusive and racist in his own way. Well, I'm sorry, some blacks simply ARE that way.

Did anybody notice the dumbed-down computer class? Expensive machines unused while teacher and students swap slogans? Everybody eager to leave? Did anybody notice that?

Did anybody notice "Bible Girl"s callousness toward the plight of "Retard" struggling with his wheelchair? Did anybody else notice the subtly nasty edge to "Bible Girl"s faith?

The movie is full of these little gems.

Thank goodness this film is so amateur. If Hollywood had gotten ahold of this idea it would have demonized the shooters and glorified everybody else.

I've seen what happens when Hollywood gets hold of a concept. I have seen these loathsome "remakes" that couldn't even TOUCH the originals. Consider "Carnival of Souls" or "The Haunting".

Um, did Carnival of Souls (1962) have a remake? If so, what is the name? The 1998 Carnival of Souls was NOT a remake. Different movie, just same name, similar to The Toolbox Murders. Check out in IMDb, it even has a notation that it was not a remake.

Excellent post, I totally agree. If this had been made as a bigger-budget mainstream film, they would have had to take out pretty much everything that makes this movie enjoyable in order to "appease the masses". I've seen three school shooting movies (Duck!, Elephant, and Zero Day), and ironically, I found this one, the independent low-budget film to be the most enjoyable. On the flip side, I thought Elephant (which topped the list in terms of budget and cast) was the least impressive.

I certainly have to give the makers of this props for having the balls to make such a movie so soon after Columbine.
