I realize that this is cinema but you'd think the writer of the screenplay (the actual pilot himself) would know that all communication between an aircraft and air traffic control is spoken in English. Now given that this film was targeted at a Spanish speaking audience but for reality's sake couldn't what limited communication between the aircraft and the ATC be done in English with Spanish subtitles?

In Argentina they're also done in Spanish between pilots who speak Spanish. Same goes with most other countries if you listen to ATC chatter within the same country. So an Air France pilot will speak French with ATC in France etc etc. Not always the case, depends on the pilot but it's common.
shareEnglish is the official "common language" of ATC, but that doesn't mean it's used all the time. In most Latin American countries, the controllers switch back and forth between Spanish and English depending in whether they're talking to a regional airline or an overseas one. Likewise, even the controllers at Charles de Gaulle in Paris speak French to French planes and English to everyone else. (Great for National pride. Not so great for safety.)
Actually, my last personal experience flying into Paris was almost 10 years ago, so it's possible that this has changed.
