Since when is having a job a bad thing? They made fun of Sam for working at a business that her family owned... didn't Austin do the exact same thing? I knew some bitchy rich kids in high school but they NEVER made fun of people for being in another tax bracket, mainly because they isn't something you can help

Yeah But Sam clearly wasn't a geek, she looked like the average teenage girl to me. She did wear a bit of makeup and she didnt look like a nerd at all, she was quite pretty. Also it just didnt make sense that they made fun of her and called her "Diner Girl" and considered her a nerd when Austin worked at a carwash and he wasn't called "Car Wash boy" he was cool and popular when he worked at his family business and yet Sam was a geek when she worked at hers.
Major plothole.
It was more that she was an unknown person, people had no idea who she was besides the girl who works at the diner. Austin wasn't called car wash boy because they knew him as the popular jock, he had friends and was considered cool. whereas Sam was annonymous apart from the fact she worked at the diner.
It's a moo point.
That's NOT the only reason she got Teased. And keep in mind that Austin had a job as well.
She was seen as the typically nerdy tomboyish girl who didn't fit the popularity high school standards. Plus she didn't have many friends aside from Carter, who was also a nerd.
