so if Sam is so unpopular..

At the pep rally scene when Shelby reveals her identity, everyone turns to Sam and gasps like they know who she is. If she's invisible and so unpopular, how does "everyone in the school" know who she is? Shelby and her crowd know her just cause of the diner but it's not like the while school eats there and cares who she is. Lol That part never made sense to me.

Well, Shelby sort of points her out to the crowd, so they follow where she's pointing. Besides Carter and Austin, who are both boys, Sam is the only other person who looks like they are not enjoying the pep rally.. and I think she is even crying by that point.

So I guess between Sam being upset, and Shelby pointing her out, it was easy to find her.

well I mean you can be unpopular but everyone knows who u are still. I mean I was a totally unpopular girl in hs. I was bullied for being studious, never went to prom, didn't have that many friends, was really quiet- but everyone knew who I was. They just never spoke to me.

Total late reply - but I realized that Sam said she was graduating a year early. Which meant that she was a bit younger than everyone, so I'm sure they'd know who she was.

Actually, they did know who she was. Remember when Sam firsts drives to school and tells Carter they don't know she exists? Then Shelby yells, "The white zone is for cool people only. No geeks" and David follows it up with "Uh, Diner Girl, can I get a breakfast burrito to go?" Later, Sam sees them at the diner, and Shelby remarks, "Well, if it isn't Diner Girl." They know who she is, but only at their convenience and Sam's expense.

Just b/c she doesn't hang with the "cool crowd" doesn't nessesarly mean no one knows her.

- for all we know, several of those kids might have had a class with her in middle school or elementary, but they never interacted with her.
