at the end

saw the flick right now and i just didn´t got the end. i really enjoyed the film with all the spooky atmosphere and the "who´s the killer" attitude" but me and my girlfriend didn´t understood the end. who was the killer and why??? the guy at the gate? or the son-in-law of gunnar? and right at the end: lasse is talking - in an off-voice - talking about per: "but you know it all, per, isn´t it?" can´t really get into this movie, besides i really love it for that great great pictures of the norwegian forests...

I did not get this films ending either. BTW I´m Swedish and saw this movie without subs (for those who are not scandinavian and not aware of it swedish and norwegian are quite similar), that may have something to do with it.

Can sb explain the ending to us, please?

what the BEEEP are you talking about?! Gunnar didn't have a son-in-law and Per had nothing to do with anything that went down, neither did Gunnar.

This is what happened :
The German tourist went crazy when his girlfriend drowned in the lake
The crazy German was a friend with the man at the gate. I guess they grew really close (they might even have a sexual relationship, considering the German running around in a red dress).
The whistling is a way of communication between the German and the gate-man. They killed Per. The German killed Gunnar.

In the end Lasse has a feeling that somethings wrong, and we get to see his thoughts about the gate-man, and at the same time we hear whistling.

GREAT MOVIE!

aggabarn's theories are interesting if nothing else ...heres my 2 pence....

Gunnar definately has connections with the German , he even speaks German at one point in the film....apparantly there are 2 endings to this film , i saw the one where it zooms in on the cabi nwindow to reveal the gate opener taking a picture...same camera is in the cabin...in the credits there is a Ghost listed, a German listed, gate keeper...who was the ghost...?
i like the fact this is all ambigious, frustrating yes, but creepy and thought provoking....why was the Swede hesitant to answer when asked how she has put up with gunnar in the past?.... Gunnars madness points to a connection with the pilot and the dead girl... could he have killed the girl?.........answers on a postcard on this very good horror film

If you can get hold of the dvd, try seeing it with the voicover-options. The director and Kristoffer Joner himself explains the plot and a lot of other interesting stuff about the movie.

Ghost? I have the norwegian DVD, and I don't see any ghosts listed in the credits.
