originaly a halloween sequel?

Is it true that they were originaly planing to do a halloween sequel, but when it got trashed they just re editied the script into this movie?
after i heard this i went back and watched the movie and it seemed to be highly likely. all the guys could all originaly be the architypal straight girls found in horro movies (the slutty one, the nervious one, the pretty one and the good girl virgin type). plus if it was meant to be a halloween sequel it would explain why the killer has no backstory shown in this film (having covered micheal back story a million times before).
what do you think?

I see it as an unofficial sequel of sorts, minus Dr. Loomis and having Eddie and the Devil as the stand-ins for Laurie Strode and Michael Myers (and it doesn't help, IMO, that The Devil wears the same kind of workboots as Michael).

Hopelessly in love with Uma Thurman, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Emmy Rossum

Joe Wolf, who was behind Halloween, was behind this one as well.

Mr. Wolf passed away shortly before the US premiere

Joe Wolf had almost nothing to do with Halloween. he exec produced 2 and 3. No one "created" Halloween except for John Carpenter, Debra Hill, and to some extent Bob Clark. That "co-creator" credit was an insult to them (and both Hill and Clark are also both deceased now, as was the ACTUAL exec producer of the original, Moustapha Akkad)
