Questions -- so much is eilliptical in this supposedly 'simple' flick
Questions, questions: What's the point of the hero's missing right eye? Why does the devil/slasher have it in his mouth at the end of the film? How did the slasher survive a bullet through his head? Why would a paramedic say something as idiotic as "don't take the mask off; he's pretty badly messed up under there; you don't want to see that." Almost as idiotic is his remark, when asked if the villain is still alive, "Don't worry; he's as useless as a carrot."
This movie -- for all its innovation in bringing a piebald genre into a new sociology -- is weirdly flaccid(!). The performances are so numbingly lowkey. The director, wanting to evade stereotypes, appears to have cajoled these actors into a catatonic, PC "anti-flamboyance."
