The fact that Mieke ended up being Scotty's roommate is a ridiculously impossible coincidence, but either way she certainly should not have had enough time to apply and get accepted into Oberlin College. She would have made the decision to attend in the summer, but the deadline for submitting everything would have passed several months earlier in January.
