Was Nicholas Hammond the senior physician?

I've always been a fan of Nicholas Hammond. He played Friedrich in The Sound of Music, BMOC Doug Simpson on The Brady Bunch, Spiderman, etc. When they showed the young doc asking for a loan from the older doc I instantly thought it was Nicholas Hammond. Then I came on here and found out that he actually IS in the movie in an uncredited role. He had some dialogue, so I don't understand why he would go uncredited. Is that older doc him, or is he an even more minor character? Thanks.
