...simply greaaaaaaat...
well, what can i say...so many stars, legends and celebrities all in a show!!! my favourites were there...june allyson, ann miller, ethel merman, james stewart, bette davis, jane russell, liza minelli, myrna loy, carol channing, tony bennett, james cagney, frances dee, joel mccrae, alice faye, helen hayes, grace kelly and many, many more...
i particularly like the "love makes the world go round" (with liza minelli singing and the movies great teams had a reunion...don ameche and alice faye, june allyson and van johnson, jane powell and howard keel, anne jeffreys and robert sterling, janet leigh and anthony perkins, etc.), "the fashion parade" (ann miller, gina lollobrigida, arlene dahl, eva gabor, etc.), "the legends" (bette davis, lilian gish, james cagney - very toucing moment when he, so frail from his tough guy image, appeared from below the stage on a chair, gene kelly, ginger rogers, myrna loy, gregory peck, etc.), "the broadway greats (celeste holm, alfred drake, bea arthur, diahann carroll, carol channing, mary martin, mickey rooney and ann miller, alexis smith, robert preston, etc.) and liza's "new york, new york" sitting on the piano, emerging from the stage.
there are two follow-ups that i know of, one in 1984 (with only a few good production numbers only, a all dance stars number, introduced by dick van dyke...with chita rivera, juliet prowse, bonnie franklin, christopher walken, marge champion, nanette fabray, charles "honi" cole, the great gregory hines, donnie osmond, debbie allen, jane powell, van johnson, even donald o'connor and ginger rogers) and "the legends" (this time with a few stars of the silents added, leatrice joy, billie dove - still beautiful, laura la plante, lilian gish and olivia de havilland, lana turner, danny kaye, sidney pointier, laurence olivier, etc.). the great lena horne, dinah shore, mel torme, sarah vaughn and esther williams were in it too.
then another in the 90s (i cannot remember the date) but i remember katherine hepburn, hume cronyn, jessica tandy, etc. cannot recall much of this one as it is less interesting and less legendary celebrities.
i hope they will make another to raise fund for the motion pictures home soon with the remaining legendary stars...
