there was more than 1 "night of 100 stars" made. i was looking thru the list of names, and some of them were not in the original 100 year anniv. of the old actors home. i dont know if there is an exhisting copy of the original show. if you are ever in manhattan, go to the radio city tour and ask the guide there...they will tell you :) have a great weekend :)
Yup. .there were 2 'Night of 100 Stars'. . 1982 the show with 100 stars and then in 1984 the show with WAY more than 100 stars. . that's the one I have on tape. . would LOVE to find a copy of the 82 show. . .
i dont think it exhists any more - the only thing i can thing of to suggest is to contact the museum of television and radio in manhattan (or is the museum of radio and television) to see if there is even a way to view the show...if u find out, let me know :)
as i know....there are three televised "night of hundred stars" (one in 1982, one in 1984 and one more much later...sorry, guys, cannot remember the year but the latter featured, hume cronyn, jessica tandy, katherine hepburn, peggy lee, etc. less classic celebrities). keith
I have the 1982 Night of Too Many Stars on DVD. I am looking for the 1985 (II) and 1990 (III). I found out that there was a Hollywood event recently dubbed "Night of 100 Stars", but I don't know when it is scheduled to air.
Haven't seen this show since original broadcast almost 30 years ago so I don't know which performers you are referring to (and possibly at the time of your original 2007 post IMDb did run all three episodes together) however I have seen the 1985 and 1990 ones quite recently and there are many names that are in both shows, I'm sure some of the 1982 names were in one of the others and maybe all three episodes. I don't recall silent movie star Laura La Plante in the 1982 episode as listed however she was in the 1985 one.
I am afraid that SMILE is the one who got matters mixed up. I own one of ten posters of the 1982 event, signed by all who were there (purchased at Swann's Galeries, New York) and all names on the listing are there. In fact, I believe there are some names from the sports world that are not included in the original list. I also have the programmes of both events and I can assure you that the 1982 is correct.
I was studying acting with Lee Strasberg and I helped with putting together and managing the first Night of 100 Stars which was held at the Waldorf Astoria in 1981 not Radio CIty. We gave out the Eleonora Duse award to all the members of the Actors Studio that had succeeded in the acting world. It was a large event and at least 100 acclaimed actors from Bobby DeNiro and Al Pacino to Bea Arthur, Sally FIeld and many others were there. Patti Lupone came from her show Evita on Broadway to perform. I picked her up in my limousine and brought her to the theater. It was a great fun filled night. They did film the event but no one seems to know what happened to the tapes. I would love to see the poster to see if it was from that first show. David
