The Real Message

The main message that I got from this movie was actually that recent HIV+ patients should not be treated as victims, they should be treated as idiotic dumb asses.

They have been bombarded with fifteen years worth of anti-HIV campaigns, warning of the pain and expense of catching the disease and the fact that you will die if you get it. Plus, good Samaratins stand on street corners and at bar exits and hand out free condoms and information to anyone that wants them, no questions asked. HIV prevention centers exist in any town with more than about 30,000 people in it.

And yet, many of these idiots become infected anyway, ignoring the billions of dollars spent trying to educate them. They shouldn't be coddled and told that everything will be alright, they should be kicked hard in the ass and told that there is no excuse at all for being so stupid.

The movie was right when it said that the anti-HIV campaigns ought to be as scary as the anti-smoking or anti-drugs ones. People need to know that HIV will kill them.

Yes, but the problem is that the gay political caucus would raise holy hell if people started treating AIDS in the western world for what it is in the 21st century, a completely preventable disease. We're just not allowed to say that.
I lived in SF when then mayor Dianne Feinstein suggested closing the bathhouses as a way to prevent the spread of this as yet unknown "gay cancer".
The gay community was outraged, saying this was an attack on their "culture". Really? Sticking your d**k through a hole in a wall to have anonymous sex is "culture"?
And don't forget the political treachery that resulted in having AIDS attached to the Americans with Disabilities Act...
If intentionally contracting HIV/AIDS is a choice, should having taxpayers pay for the $15,000 a year cost for the drug cocktail to keep the idiots asymptomatic be as well?
I'm not homophobic, I just believe in personal responsibility.
This was one of the most disturbing films I've ever seen. It was very well done, so I shouldn't have given it two stars, but the subject matter makes me so angry!!!!!!!

I'm not that proud of everything I've done, but I'm not that ashamed, either.

I really doubt that they would. You know who would really be the ones who would be most upset? The drug companies. They are making $15k per year off of each victim.

Yeah, it is. Just the same as Native Americans mutilating Bald Eagles and smoking peyote is called "culture." Every culture has aspects that other people find to be crude and backward.

If the movie affected you that much, you should be giving it a 10, not a 2. I didn't like the subject matter of Schindler's List or Shawshank Redemption, but I didn't give them "2"s because I was angry.
