A Friend of Mine...

He used to mention this. He attempted suicide a few times and couldn't overcome his mental problems. He did eventually die but I'm not sure if it was from AIDS, suicide or another way. I wasn't in communication with him at the time.

I believe he thought it would be an easier life and faster death than dealing with mental illness: with mental illness it is very hard to treat, then you have to have money to get treatment unless you can manage to afford private insurance or Medicaid (which he did have). Also, according to him they primarily keep you drugged, numb, unlike with mental problems. Plus when you get bad enough you can enter hospice care and then simply overdose on morphine. Again, something that would not happen if you are suffering from a mental illness.
