Which of the straight-to-video ones are the best?

I saw the first three Hellraiser movies, and I want to try out two of the sequels that were released immediately on video. Which ones would be the best to watch?

reply

In my opinion, "Deader" and "Inferno".

reply

I like them all, but I feel Hellseeker is the best one straight-to-video.

reply

ive seen inferno hellseaker and hellworld. the thing about the straight to video movies is they are more thriller then horror. Still have that hellraiser feeling.

reply

"Inferno" at least has a "Silent Hill" vibe to recommend it. (The game, not the movie)

Just saw the straight-to-video ones. Ugh, not really that great. Hellseeker had some benefits to it, but overall the series just ended with Bloodline in my opinion.

Considering that Clive Barker had extremely little to do with these films, they fail. Inferno had Kung Fu Cowboys and Slutty Cenobites (not kidding). Craig Scheffer's presence did not redeem it. Hellworld tries to mix multiplayer video games and house parties with the Hellraiser universe. Lance Hendriksen's presence did not redeem it. The characters couldn't even pronouce LeMarchand's name right!!! Deader attempted to add an odd twist to the saga of LeMarchand's bloodline which was established in Hellraiser Bloodline. An interesting film with an ending that (gasp!) I didn't see coming. You could see that one. Hellseeker maybe..mayyyybbbbeeee...could be considered a good movie. Why? Ashley Lawrence reprises her role as Kirsty in this film. Pinhead himself hails her as a worthy adversary. If you are only going to see one film out of all of these, see that one.

Barker had extremely little to do with 3 and 4. Bloodline he was basically told to shut up, along with the writer and director as Dimension ripped it apart. he had NOTHING to doi with part 3 until they decided they wanted his name on it and paid him after to be executive producer and add a couple of extra shooting scenes.

Barker had a simialr influence on Hellseeker except Rick Bota had to go behidn the backs of the Dimension execs who wanted Barker gone. He STOLE a copy of his own film (Hellseeker) and took it to show Barker. Barker loved it and recommended reshoots and then when Bota got in trouble an exec steppd ni and told him good job. Certain inersets in the final film are by Barker, including Stitch thrusting the face clamp into Trevor.

I have to go with "Deader." "Inferno" wasn't too terrible, but even already knowing the ending, I just wasn't that interested in the story. "Hellseeker" was painful to watch because it was just an obvious retread of "Inferno" (although the last ten minutes at least made the rental price worth it- despite destroying Kirsten's character in the process).

"Deader" had it's boring moments, but it was intruiging at times and there were moments that actually creeped me out (when she was trying to pull the knife from her back- that was a good scene). The ending seemed somewhat out of place with the mythos, but it felt like she was at least taking some control of her destiny.

"Hellworld" wasn't that good as a Hellraiser movie, but it was alright. I'd be harsher on it if I didn't have Bloodline-Hellseeker to compare it to. It was just nice that for once the twist wasn't "we're already dead." The explanation for what happened (despite a massive dose of suspension of disbelief) did have a creepy feel to it- the idea that the guy talked them into killing themselves out of drug induced hysteria.

DEADER: Nothing wrong with the ending, she killed herself to escape the Cenobites. Rather a detah there than a eternity of experimentation.

HELLWORLD: I think explanations in twist movies are void when they outright cheat. It's just not disbelief, its an outight impossibility. Person 1, say, is shown in flashback to be drugged by the cards. But then we see them walk into the basement where Person 3 is drugged. A whole 5-10 minutes later. But in relaity Person 3 would have seen Person 1 collapse and freak out! And even worse, the final person, is said to be drugged by the fake Box.,.. AFTER another person has died already. They interact and yet one is supposedly drugged in a box... it doesn't work at all.

I'm not necessarily sure if you're agreeing with me or disagreeing with me here. I indicated I liked that she was taking control of her destiny. My only thing about it not quite fitting the mythos is mainly in the way the box just opened itself up after throwing it. That was the only thing that kinda annoyed me about that scene.

Yeah... all I said is there's aspects I liked about it anyway. It's cute that you have an opinion and all, but so far every message of mine you've replied to kinda has a cocky "I'm right, you're an idiot" feel. It's kinda getting old.

And then I apologise, discussio is the spice of life and all, and whislt forward in my views, I try to always remain positive. Hellworld is just a sore point for me, and any anger or bitterness in my comments is directed at the film, not yourself. Mainly because I felt it treated so-called Hellraiser fans as drunken, idiots and theninsulted my intelligence with twists that didn't work. And there I go again.

Anyway, in the case of Deader, if it helps, Amy had already opened the Box. The Cenobites had been waiting, biding their time, as in the original Hellraiser, until she was ready to deliver them to Winter and the Deaders.

Maybe the drug works slowly, rather than immediately? They do all split up fairly early in the film, it seems to me that he would have scooped each one up in turn as they were alone. You see him digging in the yard at various points, presumably adding a new coffin each time, rather than all at once.

Inferno and Hellseeker are good, probably even better than 3 and 4 IMO.

Dear is God awful, Hellworld doesn't make a blind bit of sense. Revelations I have no interest in, seen as how Dimension couldn't be arsed paying for Doug Bradley to return.

Inferno is quite an intriguing story, but more like a 40's detective story with a gratuitous appearence from Pinhead thrown in. Not a bad film, just not a Hellraiser film.

Hellseeker is crap. Just because Kirsty is back in it doesn't make it good. Very dull.

Deader could have been good, but wasn't. Again, very dull, but a few nice visuals. Better than Hellseeker.

Hellworld isn't great but it is probably the best of the four. A few good visuals, Lance Henriksen, and some gratuitous nudity all score it points, but it still doesn't hold a candle to the early movies.

Inferno and Hellworld are the best. Forget the other two.

I liked Bloodline, Inferno, and Hellseeker.

Deader and Hellworld were fair at best. I like all 5 of them more than III

Inferno is the best Hellraiser movie.

Not just straight-to-video... it's just the best one.

The first is great, and the others are hit-and-miss, but Inferno is the best story by far.

reply

Let me guess, you're related to someone who made the film.

rent all of them and watch them in numerical order,
then place 5-8 into your trash can and forget you ever watched them

I personally ADORE Inferno, almost as much as the first one.
I think Bloodline, Hellseeker, and Deader are okay too.
I hate Hellworld as much as I hate Hell on Earth.
