is this even worth seeing?

i havent seen it yet but the plot sounds confusing and bazzare
should i bother?

reply

It's worth it. I just watched it now. It's sorta like Wes Craven's new nightmare. Where the people in the movie are supposed to be like us who have already seen the movies.

reply

Yes, I would meen so. Pinhead dosen't apear much in the movies anymore, but stil there are great. This last one, Hellworld, is far better then the previous two. And the surprice ending is really good.

Not really.

It abuses and ruins everything that amde Hellraiser good, finally transforming it into a mindless teen slasher. Even the weak part 3 had adult characters, this has stupid kids. And it ends with a "twist" that makes ZERO sense and simply the plot holes are HUGE. It's just depressing.

What didn't make sense about the "twist" Scarecrow? For me that explained everything just fine and just barely salvaged the movie by undoing all the "abuse".

Yes but they could probably hear eachother's delusional ramblings (enough to influence their own hallucinations) through the ventilation pipes and/or phones. Lance could have been orchestrating this to an extent. If he heard one kid freaking out about a particularly amusing horror, he could plant the seed in another kid to get him going too.

I guess. ;-} I'm not saying everything worked out stellar, mind you, just... passable, IMO.

When were they all drugged.

You have 5 people. Apparently 3 are drugged in his items room, one in the basement and one with e fake box. All fine except... if they were all drugged at different times why didn't the others notice?

In reality, three would have collapsed and the other two would have been "wtf" and would not have acrried on into the house! And the ending flashbacks DO heavily imply, pretty much say, that these are the occasions where they are all drugged. Which makes no sense.

Not to mention, how they all communicate in their delusions. If they can hear each other / phones are on conference calls then how can the Host talk to them all individually... eveyr time he said soemthing they'd all hear it. And they'd all hear each other all the time. And if the phones aren't all connected how do they talk?

Not even mentioning being save dby Adam's Ghost and The Host's appirition both of which go against the hellraiser mythology, espesially if Adam DID somehow go to Hell.

Peronsally, the whole film was a mess for me and certainly a waste of potential.

Well I do feel the need to argue just for the sake of understanding, not because I want you to like the movie. But dislike it for proper reasons (like that the story and the "horror" were just so damn weak, for example)

Anyhoo...

The three +1 kids got drugged. Then they all went into the party and SPLIT UP. The last kid got drugged and then they each individually got dragged outta the party (haha look this dumb kid passed out from too much partying) and buried in the back yard.

They could hear each other through the ventilation pipes (just well enough to start IMAGINING horrible things, mind you) if not the phones.

Adam's ghost.... who the hell knows. I agree that that was lame. But Adam, I don't think, ever opened the box. He just got obsessed with the computer game and was nuts enough to kill himself anyway.

I'm not saying don't be pissed that the movie sucks, just focus your rage appropriately. ;-}

BUT the flashbacks at the end indicate the druggins happen in a certain points, the first of which being when they went into The Hosts office. And the last point of reality we see is them all going in to look at his collection.

And whose point nof view are we following at that point? Because Chelsea isn't drugged until the basement but she couldn't have gone on her own. WHislt they could have been split up and drugged the film never shows us this. And even the flashbacks to the druggings show the five points that are at totally different times.

Again, if they COULD hear ecah other then they should have ALWAYS have been able to ehar each other. Ie. in the delusions even when they were seperate liked when the girl gets killed on her own in the chir... the others would have heard her then! We even get flashes of her screaming in her coffin... the others should have heard. And they had to be able to hear each clearly as they apparently carried off whole conversations to the point that the main two end up in a relationship base don their delusions!

I'm not angry just more... utterly disappointed with the film. And the sense that on one level they tried, with the Leviathan references. But it really was everything fans have dreaded the series becoming, the cheesey teen slasher.

They got drugged when we see them get drugged. But it didn't necessarily take effect immediately is all I'm saying.

But ya. Whatever ;-} The movie's definately not worth me trying to fight for it.

BUT then the fifth kid is drugged way after the others and AFTER many of the delusions start and he interacts with the ones who are already having delusions.

- Scarecrow

reply

Hmmm.... I don't recall him witnessing anyone's delusions before he was drugged, tho they had already started their own.

But who knows. Haha dammit why can't we talk about one of the better movies? ;-}

I've said it before that this movie would have been a lot better as a standalone movie, but it's not nearly as bad as what I saw of Deader or, especially, Inferno.

reply

[deleted]

Yeah, but I'll admit that my not liking Inferno (as well as Deader, but I'm pretty sure I probably still won't like that even with Kari Wuhrer in it) is also mostly because I wasn't paying all that much attention. If I had been, I at least might have appreciated it more.

This is the only Hellraiser movie I haven't seen. I've been looking around for part 8 for a few weeks now. I might just buy it just to have the whole series.

Or wait, since it'll probably eventually show up on Sci-Fi Channel again.

reply

It came on Scifi about a month or two ago, of course I missed it though.

Edit: I watched it recently, better than part 7 that's for sure.

In reply to the OP, yes, it is woth seeing. If you go to the graphic novels as well, the hellraiser series goes well beyond Pinhead and his henchmen. In fact Pinhead is nothing more than one worker in hell that we happen to come across. The later films that eveyone seems to complain about simply look at other aspects of hell, pain and pleasure.
I'd be happy to see more movies, even if they didn't have pinhead in them, as long as they keep in the style of the mythology.

It was alright i guess. I found it somewhat boring how there were only 3 cenobites, Chatterer, Bound, and Pinhead (of course).

Ha, I know this is going to sound dumb but did anyone think how there was false advertising? I mean, on the back of the DVD box, they put a picture of Pinhead, Angelique and The bloodline twins...

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!

Worth it ooly for the gore. The plot is extremely confusing and seems to stray from the Hellraiser canon. That's because the whole thing turns out to be a collective dream engineered by a mad man who dismisses the Hellraiser mythos.

reply

It depends on what you watch the movie for. I watched it just because Lance Henriksen was in it and his performance was as always freakin' fantastic!

I watched it last night and I was actually impressed. It exceeded my expectations for it by actually following a story, and the actors weren't bad either.

The "hero" part of it, may have been a bit cheesy, but the movie is pretty decent.

The end of it is hilarious though!

Always an active duty Jr. American Gladiator!

I'm a fan of the first, and even somewhat of the second. This is pure rubbish, yes, even with Lance. Absolute sh!te.

Nope. It's just another teenie-bopper bimbo fest, hardly anything to do with the original concept.
