The making of Devil's Harvest

It would not be unreasonable to expect Devil's Harvest to have been shot by a large crew just banging out films in a get-rich-quick manner but in fact that couldn't be further from the truth.
DH was crewed by about fifteen young unpaid people (myself included) with re-shoots and additions crewed by about four people (sometimes only two of three for some shots). We were all very inexperienced and were very much learning as we went along. The production was far from easy due to our cashflow but we did the very best with what we had and I'm proud of what we achieved.
To get a 35mm movie completed for that sort of money (with special effects and known actors like Brian and Julie) was pretty good going. Hiring an ARRI 35IIIC camera, lights, dolly and all the film stock and processing etc. swallowed nearly all of our budget. Evening meal was a small bowl of Supernoodles on occasion but Jim, Ollie and Neil did their best for the actors and crew with what they had and all credit to them for that.
Ok - I know the finished film is not the greatest piece of cinematic art ever commited to celluloid - let's not be nieve here, but just look at some of the absolute tripe that gets to the cinema: "Batman & Robin" for example. Absolute bilge-water and they probably spent far more on food and toilets as we did on our entire movie.
Just to dispel another myth - DH was not based on the "Dagon" movie - we started filming well before that one came out (we just took longer to get ours finished.
So to conclude - not the best film ever by a long way but created for peanuts by people learning as they went. I'm actually proud of what we achieved and I bet you weren't expecting anyone to say that now were you.

Right on. You have to start somewhere. 99% of the reviews on IMDB are just opinions by people who somehow expect cinema to be perfect, even though they have no idea what perfection should be. Hope you haven't given up. I've always wanted to be in a movie and wouldn't even know where to begin. My hat's off to you.
