Kind of depressing

This film reminded me a lot of Bergman's Scenes From a Marriage.

And, despite the fact it was filmed backwards, I found it equally depressing.

Anyone else have similar thoughts?

While there were some sweet moments, even the birth and wedding scenes were filled with melancholy. We never really saw them happy together (apart from the wedding scene, but then she goes off and has sex with another guy... I was absolutely horrified during that scene... like... no, that can't happen. oh shiet..)

i saw it a long time ago and it still kinda gets me down when i think about that film.

...and I thought I was the only one feeling like this. I find this film utterly depressing, also because I hoped all the time that at least the beginning of their relationship would be a little better. But then... of course, he was with another woman when he met Marion and left her for something new. I didn't see any light or happy moment in the entire film.

Seeing the story backwards, knowing full well how it would end, makes every other scene sort of sad and depressing, even if it involved happy thoughts and instances at the time.
I believe this was exactly the intention of the film-maker in choosing this technique, reversing foreshadowing really.

You say "depressing" like that's inherently a bad thing. Not every movie, story, or life for that matter is going to have an uplifting arc. I don't like movies that are just rub-your-face-in-misery-for-its-own-sake downers, but a movie that actually earns and fleshes out its sadness is worth seeking out, in my book.
