I wish it was longer.

I thought so too at first, before having watched it, but remember this is an OVA, it was only created to tell one specific story, not to go on television for five seasons in order to make money and create toys like with TRANSFORMERS.

I've just finished watching the last episode, it was a very bittersweet but good ending and the drama was much more deep and thought-through than with the original Macross-series.

Each episode continued exactly where the last one ended, so Macross Zero could just as easily be edited together to make one 2.5 Hour movie instead. Try to see it as a movie.
