TECH QUESTION

I have a technical question so,here we go...
The VF's,use alien tech or not?I'm asking this because i always thought the Veritechs(sorry...i mean Valkiryes!)used alien technology found at the SDF-1,s they could perform their changes from an fighter to Gerwalk and Battroid, and when i see the first dogfight in macross zero...an Tomcat against a mecha!Or are the Vf's exclusively terran?

Hello. Well I have been a fan of the show since it first appeared via Harmony Gold in the Eighties. Subsequently, I have tried to watch the original Japanese OVA from which the first Robotech Saga was derived. Getting to the question though, I believe the entire idea/technology of a variable or transformable fighter craft as well as the necessary, propulsion, metallurgical, and weapons advances would presumably be the results of study of ASS-1/SDF-1 which began soon after it crashed on Earth. In Macross Zero, the Engineer Kazou did mention that the available VF-0 fighters were not yet fitted with the protoculture reactor based propulsion system which would allow long term/extra-terrestrial operation (hence the multiple refueling scenes), suggesting that they were a work in progress. Akin to the espionage related to the Manhattan Project, the Soviet Union, and Los Alamos Labs, the Anti Unification front may very well been privy to many of the technological advances that were uncovered from the wreckage of Zor's battle fortress, thus explaining why someone other than UN Spacy had access to Veritech technology.

I hope this answers your question, Take care!

grnyg, this is the Robotech explanation. In my opinion in the Macross universe, the "protoculture" is not the battery known from the MOSPEDA series!
I agree, that the VF ZERO prototype is derived from the SDF 1 technology, but the energy source is conventional (fusion reactor is mentionеd by the engeneer in Macross Zero, and by Focker in the original Macross), and had nothing to do with the protoculture.

Actualy, exactly in Macross Zero we get the better explanation for the protoculture phenomena - mystic power given to humans by space ancestors.
Not the "fuel" Robotech nonsense.

Exactly. Protoculture is exactly what the name implies, a spiritual connection to the universe around us which is often released via song (Sara, Lynn Minmei, Sharon Apple, etc). The reason protoculture is such a shock to the aliens encountered in the Macross series is frankly because they've lost their connection to the protoculture in their genes, via their advance tech or their cloning. Think about it this way, everyday our tech makes it easier to do our daily tasks, but you lose the human touch..same deal.

Now the Valkyries, the Armour, EVERYTHING NEW, came from the SDF-1 aka "The Macross" or Alien Star Ship-1 (A.S.S.1) as it is known elsewhere. A little human ingenuity applied to advance alien tech helped in their creation. Oh yea, the Valkyries were built to allow the UN Spacey warriors to fight the Zentran/Meltran on their own level. How do you fight a 40ft man? Build a 40ft armoured robot (mech) out of a fighter plane ;)

Protoculture is the name of the first civilization that existed in the Galaxy. They nemed theirselves "Protoculture" or first civilization.
