Redoing This Film?

Heard from the grapevine Kamal Ahmed is remastering and redoing this movie, got the original in the mail yesterday from Netflix, watched it this morning.

First off, I now can see why he is redoing this movie; it has some serious holes/flaws. The God character is just some out of his mind homeless person it seems, who improvised his lines to the best of his abilities as the cameras rolled, but in some parts could not think of anything to say and paused made some deer stuck in headlight look for a few seconds or just said anything. It's to the point the characters lines don't fit into the movie and you're left guessing filling in the blanks yourself, but you hit several dead ends no matter how many times you rewind and re-watch. Is this some writing style I don't know about? Get the viewers imagination going and guessing what just happened, only you're left guessing once too often and you end up losing the movie.

Don't get me wrong, the acting was superb, actors showed real emotion for their characters giving it their all, but the directing and script were a damn joke, there is no direction in this movie, none, except some guys get picked up and thrown into a holding cell with god, the rest is just some mangled garbled mess. If it were not for the superb acting by all the actors, this movie would be what it is, some attempt by an amateur to make a film, who got lucky choosing some unknowns as actors who lifted this movie up a bit with their acting skills. I will give him that, the acting talent was good, but he gave them nothing to work with.

I'll go on to say this movie was not as bad as Rapturious, the one reason being the acting in this one was acceptable, too bad the actors it seemed had nothing to work with and what they did have hindered and restrained their acting abilities.

I know people will point out that this was a low budget flick, but come on, I'm complaining about the script and how it is flawed, not the set and filming.

The devil shows up in the end, you can feel the tension, he parades in, and then out of nowhere the tension dries up, it starts to build up as he walks in then opens his mouth says his lines and boom tension gone, the lines he had to work with and used to interact with the other characters just ruin it. If the devil said nothing and just stood there or improvised his lines and didn't follow the script, the tension would have remained, but the corny lines and the corny reactions the actors are restrained into by this script dries it right up, then everyone turns happy and starts hugging. You can identify this garbled going nowhere falling flat writing style throughout Kamal's movies, same as in Rapturious. Meanwhile... the whole movie "God" is spitting out some one-liners that do not even make sense, he was not restrained by the script it seems, but he did his best.

I don't even know where to begin or end, but I am just questioning why in Gods name would anyone redo and re-master this movie?

I totally disagree with you. I think this movie is an instant classic. I don't see what your issue with the directing is all about?

There is nothing "corny" about the dialogue, its the way people talk. I thought the guy who played God was awesome. The whole point was to make you believe that this crazy guy was God and was sort of like a test for these guys to believe in him.

As your no direction comment - the film is all about the dialogue. Not since Reservoir Dogs and Clerks have I seen a movie set in the same location with this style that I found interesting. The script is awesome and I don't see anything flawed.

And the Devil - William Smith - his appearance was an awesome surprise. The way he rolls in and trys to build more hatred kicks ass!

With your diss on Rapturious it seems you have some sort of beef with the director rather than his movies.

Everybody I showed Rap Sheet to has totally dug it. Especially my friends from NY or NJ. Its a great reminder to what people are like back home where there is much more "ethnic" tension. I am really fired up to see this movie cleaned up. I think it's our generations 12 Angry Men.

It seems like this is going to be an exact scenario repeat of my Rapturious review! An army of hostile responses, with no detail, just no you're wrong, or I don't think so, no details whatsoever.

I didn't realize people like the God character seemed crazy when they forgot lines and paused for a few seconds, I must have miss something there. To me forgetting your lines or not being able to think of anything comes off as downright goofy in a movie, it looks amateurish, it comes off like what it is, a joke, doesn't make the character look crazy. The whole point was for him to test the other cellmates by blanking out and freezing while acting? How does that work? I'll tell you how ... it doesn't.

Reservoir Dogs and Clerks became instant classics, this movie, became instant discount bin it seems. If it was so great, why didn't a major studio pick it up or recognize the genius behind this film and front him money to make another masterpiece? Let me guess, it was some grand conspiracy against Kamal, yet again, this person must have no luck, he didn't with Rapturious. Poor chap.

The script is awesome but you see no flaws, meanwhile you don't go into detail about what was so awesome, just saying it was to try and dispel what I said does no one any good. It's easy finding one like excuses with what I didn't like, but not going into any detail, you lose credibility, no backing. I could easily say I showed this movie to a whole bunch of people and they hated it too, I would go into detail about what they hated though, if I did.

The way Will Smith rolls in is awesome, he's a great actor, and his look is unique, I agree, but then when he starts his vocal interaction with the other characters, it just goes nowhere, it could have been a bang, but it fizzles. I agree on you with that part, he came in all hardcore, I just didn't like his lines and how he interacted with the other characters, as an example he says something in another language, seems like Arabic, that falls flat, it just lost its intensity when he opened his mouths, the lines he had just didn't ruined everything.

With rapturious I gave something about 30 points to make it clear why I did not like the movie, as a few people popped up out of the woodwork, saying the same you are that I seem to have something personal with Kamal, like it's some conspiracy against him. I loved the Jerky Boys, this is why I even have an interest in his movies.

I gave an honest review of Rapturious and gave points what I did not like in detail, numbered them too. It wasn't a diss, it was an honest review, how can I help it if obviously someone can't take any criticism and has people flock and bash honest reviews posted on their work. If this movie was our generations 12 angry men, why has it not gotten any recognition by anyone? Clearly someone in the industry would have viewed it and saw some talent somewhere, I did with all the actors. Whoever picked these actors knew what they were doing, they picked pure acting talent, but whoever wrote this script didn't.

Ok here are a few scenes I have problems with, the oriental gentleman, you couldn't even piece together he was molested as a child, it was so all over the place and the lines his character had trying to explain the scenario, just didn't do it. You go into a flashback sequence, but it's too chaotic, no order, you don't know what just happen, you're left guessing.

When the English fellow asks for a cigarette, but uses another word for it, guess what, that fell flat, that joke has been over done with used numerous times, just fell flat, again the scriptwriter thought he was being clever. The acting was great when he was interacting with the Irish character, but again the lines, fell flat, their facial expressions and reactions were great, but the lines distract you from all that and ruin it.

When the Hasidic Jew is driving around and not saying anything, the crazed look on his face, pure excellence, the transsexual he then visits and what happens next, the camera angles their facial reactions, GREAT, but see they didn't say much, so you're not distracted from the corny lines in the script and enjoy the great acting.

This is why I have problems with this movie, the direction, and the script, just don't flow.

Looking at your profile and Kamal having been interviewed by I Can Smell Your Brains, you seem to be the biased one, not me, I'm pointing out details and backing up my claims, and why I think it is what it is, I'm not being told by someone to post these messages. I guess I will have to post several points I found wrong with God Has a Rap Sheet, as I did for Rapturious.

Moreover, in the interview with Kamal you mention you heard John Brennan on Family Guy having to do 35 takes for lines as Mort the pharmacist, I'd have to say it must have taken them years to make the last episode when Mort, Brian and Stewie teleported back in time to Germany, as Mort was the main character which the story focused on. John is so hard to work with, clearly, that’s why they made him the main character for a whole damn episode. I guess also John is so bad those pranks he did were all fake, it wasn't really him talking, or he did 35 takes for each prank too somehow, pausing when he messed up or something and those he prank called forgave him, let him start over.

Did I even mention The Jerky Boys? None of my feelings on the movie have anything to do with Johnny Brennan.

And furthermore - I actually didn't just show it to a few friends, I enjoyed the movie so much I ran it at a theatre here in Phoenix for a weekend and the film was very successful. (And Raptorious got rave reviews from moviegoers at the International Horror and Sci-Fi Convention last year in AZ)

We are more of a horror website - and my partner and I decided to show something way off our regular programming because we felt the film deserved more recognition.

Just cause a major studio doesn't pick up a film doesn't mean it's not good.

*beep* with that thinking what is the justification for major studios with films like Waterworld or Congo? How much was spent on The Fast and The Furious?

The acting is great but the dialogue sucks. Your comment doesn't make a lot of sense considering they are acting the dialogue.

I don't know why you are getting so defensive - but you obviously didn't see the same movie I did.

Hey DANNYNSK,don't even waste your time arguing. NYEMAIN's only critiques are about Kamal Ahmed's movies. Check it out for yourself. He's probably John Brennan from the Jerky Boys (lol)

I just went and read this NYEMAIN dudes other movie reviews and banter on Rapturous. That's the only other movie he reviewed on here.

Its def obvious you got a vendetta. Maybe Kamal hooked up with your sister or something? You are very angry and after reading all your comments on his other film it's pretty apparent you have an issue with him.

Way to look like an idiot.

Why don't you say who you really are? Inquiring Minds want To Know..............
