Spare me!

I know I must sound like a major Scrooge to the devoted fans of this corney, predictable, annoying movie, but I felt compelled to weigh in and express another point of view. Why is it so difficult for movie makers to come up with even a half-way original Christmas movie with likeable, believable characters? The character of Eloise is so annoying you just want somebody to slap her. And as for a six-year-old who speaks and carries herself the way she does...PLEASE! The story? I won't even go there: dull, boring, predictable. If you really want to see a much more entertaining and charming children's Christmas movie, rent "Prancer."

I respect your opinion, but I found Prancer to fit every one of the charges leveled at this film. While not a cinematic masterpiece, it was very fresh, funny and full of spirit and heart. The actors all contributed to make this ensemble piece a complete and believable world. I was too wrapped up in the spunk and pizazz of the film that I didn't even venture to predict what would happen next, just followed it along. I suppose if I had tried to predict what would happen next, it would have been easy, but ELOISE's charm is not in where it goes, but how it gets there. I am normally very critical of films, but this holiday gem completely took me in. I wasn't bored for a minute.

I didn't "try" to figure out what was going to happen next...it was all too obvious. But I respect your opinion as well. Bottom line is, you liked the movie and that's all that matters. Evidently a lot of people did. What I appreciate in a film, however, are characters I can like and relate to and in "Prancer" I found those characters. In "Eloise," I was simply annoyed by just about every character in the film.

As stevecauley already have indicated, though I am a fan of "Eloise at Christmas" there were moments I too was bit annoyed by six-year-old Eloise acting and jumping around like little spoil brett, but quickly I learned she was only six years old rich girl in the movie and that was part of her charm. Julie Andrew playing nanny was extra delight! Over all I believe the movie was family friendly cute little movie perfect for the all young and young in hearts can enjoy and I know I did!

Please ... Her character is so annoying you want to slap her? Stay away from kids if that is how you feel. I found her character delightful, so unlike the six year and older kids of today. I am hoping some of her delightful ways will rub off on my granddaughter. If you did spend time around kids today, you would understand what I am saying. She is a good role model unlike some ( kids who cannot speak the English language properly and dress like 20 year old's ) you see in movies today. If only six year olds did carry themself that way. Her character was likeable and believable. that is what makes "ELOISE" who she is. The Christmas story was entertaining and charming not only for children but for adults as well. This movie was anything but predictable. This is a Holiday classic for me. I only wish there were more Eloise stories.
Next time turn off the movie.

Eloise is a very believable character. Many 6 year olds speak more eloquently than adults. In fact, a six year old child can know (generally speaking, there are extremely gifted and challenged children) anywhere from 5000-20000 words (covering about a third of what adults know) and they add an average of 5 words to their vocabulary a day. Being that Eloise is home schooled, and speaks at least 2 languages, her vocabulary is probably much higher. Children who know more than one language have an easier time understanding, learning, and applying new words.

As far as the way she carries herself, I know of 3-5 year olds who carry themselves that way. Just because shes 6, doesnt mean she has to be clumsy, cutesy, etc. And she is very much the norm as far as strong willed, independently minded girls are concerned. The fact that you havent met a girl like this yet saddens me.

And the fact that you'd want to slap her really makes me hope that you never have children. That is no way to respond to a young girl expressing her beliefs and views and trying to understand the world around her.

And this movie is actually based on a book. Eloise is a children's book series. Look it up. Yes it's predictable, its for CHILDREN.
