Different versions?

When I watched the 'making-of' on my region 1 DVD, I was surprised to see at least one long scene that wasn't included in the movie... footage which further explores the relationship between Ruy and his wife.

Why is it missing, I wonder?

And now, I see that the Australian region 4 release spparently has the running time at 108 minutes, which is a full 8 minutes longer than the region 1 version... and when you take into account the NTSC/PAL factor it should actually run at about 5 minutes less.

No doubt you know where I'm heading with this... does the Australian release of 'Day of Wrath' have a longer cut of the movie?

I wonder the same thing. (I'm in the U.S.)

I wondered, too, if the scene would have confused viewers about Ruy's marriage relationship. Or maybe it took it in a direction that the director didn't want to pursue. The version of the movie I watched made it seem like there wasn't a lot of trouble in their marriage; the "deleted" scene magnified any trouble there was and might have to be clarified.

Please see my reply above. I really thought the marriage didn't seem t be too happy.

I’m in Australia, and recently watched this, presumably a Region 4 DVD. Unfortunately, I’ve returned it to the video store, and can’t check its running time. However, there were no extras on the DVD (except perhaps a trailer), which may imply the scene you talk about was included here. I would be interested to hear you describe the scene that explores the relationship between Ruy and Isabella, so I can say if it was included.

The film, as I saw it, implied that there was trouble in the marriage e.g. Isabelle seemed to be second best to Carmen, Isabelle wanted to return to Antwerp, Ruy was spending a lot of his free time at the tavern to avoid going home.

The Finnish Region 2 PAL version of this film is also 108 minutes. DVDCompare.net doesnt seem to have an entry for this film yet.

My memories fading, but he wanted to make love to her and she thought the idea was pretty unpleasent and unnecessary.
