Any relation to Dreyer's?
I know this may be boneheaded, but is there any tie to Dreyer's film from 1943 (except title, of course)?

Indirectly maybe. The new version is about the Spanish Inquisition hunting down Jews, even converted ones in the 1600's.
The 1946 version is about out of control witch hunts in the 1600's in Denmark. Since it was filmed a year after WWII war ended in a country that had been occupied by the Nazis there are subtle comparisons of the Nazis hunting down Jews in WWII.
