The Brothers Karamazov

The Second Coming is essentially plagiarized from Dostoevsky's masterpiece novel The Brothers Karamazov, specifically the chapter entitled The Grand Inquisitor.

The only differences are the setting of The Second Coming is tamer and the Grand Inquisitor parable does not expressly depict the death of Jesus, although the Inquisitor makes it clear he is definitely going to kill Jesus in retaliation for the suffering and destruction wrought by God-given free will and God-given knowledge of good and evil.
