What's the deal then.

I bought the (UK) DVD of Sky Blue the other day cos I saw the film before and loved the look of it (but was too sleepy to follow the whole thing).

I read the film notes that came with the DVD, and learned that they had made different versions for Korea and the western market.

I always like to see the full version of a film and won't watch cut or altered versions, but I figured if it was the producers original intent, then I guess it's okay.

But I’ve read some posts on the IMDb that deride the western version.

My Question:

Is the western version really that bad, or is it just some movie purists (like myself) giving the non original version a hard time?

If I need the original version, what is the DVD to get (from any region or country)?

I don't think the changes (I don't think there's any actual 'cuts' in the usual sense of the word) to the Western version are that bad, though some are truly inexplicable (the door section comes to mind).

The best edition is a Region 3 Limited Edition DVD, with the Director's Cut version of the film. English subs only.

What door section? (i've only seen the UK cut).

I wish that i had a full version, but to be honest, i'm not sure i care enough about this film to worry about it.

it's funny on these boards cos people say you have to have the full version, but everyone sl@gs of the plot anyway.

I only like this films for the visuals anyway, and i've got most of it on my DVD.

The bit where Shua i stood in the middle of the road carrying a door? A piece of dialogue prior to that was removed, which explained it.

I wouldn't worry about getting the full version, it certainly doesn't add so much that the plot suddenly makes sense or anything. ;-)

The main selling point and most important thing about this film is the visuals. If you've got the R2/0 DVD, I wouldn't worry about getting the R3 one.

Thanks for putting my mind at ease.

How do you know about the differences? Have you seen both versions?

I have the R0 Tartan UK DVD and a friend of mine has the Region 3 Director's Cut. I've seen them both, and I'm happy enough with the version I have.

I have the R0 version purchased in the UK but it only has an English voice track, is this normal? It says on the back that the language is Japanese with English subs but no option is on the disc for this. Has anyone else experienced this?
