Drag Queen speaking Hebrew?

Did anyone else find it weird at the subway station when the black drag queen asked Eyal how he was in Hebrew after learning he was Israeli? Maybe he'd had a previous relationship with an Israeli or something (or was possibly Jewish himself), but I just found it a little surprising that he would randomly know a Hebrew phrase like that.

Im confused as to why it's ironic that it was a black drag queen. Is this not common in Germany? A black man? or a drag queen?

I probably only know about 50 words in Hebrew but I burst out laughing at that scene. I thought it was great.

I've met people in the most remote places - a horse cart driver at the temples of Bagan in Burma, a policeman at Angkor Wat, a Mayan priest in Guatemala - who spoke to me in Hebrew, often including contemporary slang.

But I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

He just says "Ma nishma?" (I haven't seen the film in a while, but I don't recall him saying anything more.) That's a common phrase he could have easily picked up from Israeli or Jewish friends or from a phrasebook, without any broad knowledge of the language.
