Avoid This Movie...

Personally, I love martial arts comedies. Especially the likes of Beverly Hills Ninja (which I had to order from the US as it wasn't available here in the UK) and Kung Pow - which made me, and everyone I've watched it with, laugh more than any movie I have ever seen to date. This movie though, Tongan Ninja, was a true waste of time and efforts. The scene with the guy having his legs carved up by fish was impressive (although seen before done much better in the likes of Braindead) and the only real amusing scene I thought was the part where the 'hero' uses the microphone in his fight scene. The rest of the movie had me very bored and just was totally flat when it comes to funny.

By all means watch away if you've time to waste but it does move along very slow and in a lot of respects it does try to be like Kung Pow but very miserably fails. Do yourselves a favour and watch Beverly Hills Ninja or Kung Pow and avoid this one.

I have to disagree with the person above, Kung Pow actually makes me and a lot of other people sick, it's a parody that is not even funny and is ridiculous trying to add its own western humour that isn't even funny. This is in complete contrast to tongan ninja in which the parody of particular interest is Bruce Lee's Way of the Dragon....
If you ask me, avoid Kung Pow at all costs and enjoy yourselves watching tongan Ninja

Yep im with SuperFob too. Kung Pow was no where near as funny as Tongan Ninja. Also Tongan Ninja could not have been trying to be like Kung pow as DevilsAdvocate has sugested as Tongan Ninja was in production a number of years before Kung Pow was even written. <---- Spooky :o)

You can't compare this film with the other movies. It's complete no budget and it fully filmed in DV camera. Also had only three person who done the production work.

*sniff* Yeah... That's a true ninja film for ya... Seriously though, after I saw this movie, I IMMEDIATELY had to add it to my list of favorite movies. And those songs are just too catchy. It's really hard to choose a favorite.

My opinion is exactly the opposite. I loved Tongan Ninja, and found Kung Pow and Beverly Hills Ninja to be embarrassingly unfunny.

Yeah you can't even compare a multi-million dollar hollywood flick to one some buddies made in the weekends. Plus they started TN in '98.

Beverly Hills Ninja has definitely been released in the UK; I used to have it on VHS and a DVD release followed when DVD started to take off in the UK. The BBFC passed it for a 12 (with some cuts for violence as the distributor didn't want a higher rating, with one compulsory cut to remove a then-banned technique in the form of the double ear-clap). In the DVD version, when reclassified under newer guidelines all previous cuts were waived except the double ear-clap, which at that time, while now allowed in releases, was not allowed at 12.

Thats your opinion, we loved it

Beverly Hills Ninja had its moments, but Kung Pow is simply awful. So bad it screwed up my television for a few days afer watching it.

Sadly the movie was crap and even Jemaine couldn't save it. I liked his commentary though.

This is NZ's greatest film. By a mile. Those who don't get it are barely alive.
It is real comedy......
