AAAaaaaaannnnddd, now I hate Peter Sellers.

The scene where he tells his son he loves him and the mom, but he loves Sophia Loren more pretty much cements that I no longer find this actor interesting. So, if that is not accurate, the makers of this film are guilty of character asassination.

not sure if it was exactly like that... since I wasn't there but... Yeah, from what I've read of Sellers, that is pretty much how it went down...

he was a flawed genius.

James Brown beat his wife and snorted cocaine, Howard Hawkes was a germophobe and used up women, Michael Jackson remodelled his face and wanted to sleep with little boys, and Peter Sellers was an insecure psychotic with an Oedipus complex. Most artists we consider genius have their flaws. It's a balance thing: you simply can't have all the traits of a human right, it's one or the other. These guys were good at what they did, but at a price. They were able to focus on their craft and excel, but it meant that somewhere along the line the balance got shifted and they lost toch with "reality".
Or do you think a guy like Stanley Kubrick would make such impeccable movies if he was a jolly fellow who liked to throw BBQ's on saturday afternoon?

How do know you he didn't sometimes? I've seen documentaries with his wife and daughters talking about how this reputation of him being an eccentric recluse was formed over the years when in fact he was a good husband and father and their home was a happy place.

To be fair to them: Inside every human being lies a sociopath; waiting for an excuse to come out.

I've got to say I was pretty surprised by the coldness of Peter Sellers in that and many other scenes in this film. I still respect him as an actor – but if this is an accurate portrayal, a very bitter, petty, mean-spirited one.

The fact is what if Sellers was an insecure and sad individual in real life? he was extremely talented, and while gorwing up, watching his movies always made me happy so... ahould i feel guilty if i don`t want to remember him as an extremely unstable individual but as an extremely talented performer ahose movies gave me and my family some really fun memories that i deeply cherish? I think not. Like another poster said, if you start judging actors by how they really were in real life you are going to miss on a lot of fun: Sean Connery says it`s okay to beat on women if you feel they deserve it, yet he is arguably the best bond ever, Russell Crowe is an agressive and impulsive drunk yet i still cry when i watch gladiator, Chevy Chase was said to be the ultimate douche when he was in the peak of his fame but that won`t unable me to enjoy Caddyshack, Robert Downey jr was an unstable junkie for many years, and even if he hadn`t recover i would still be able to enjoy his performances in movies like Chaplin or Kiis Kiss Bang Bang.
I believe in me. I'm a little screwed up but I'm beautiful.

So that scene with Sophia really did happen?
I am asking because a few years ago I read a thread on this board where people were saying that it was supposed to be a mock portrait of Sellers and that it never happened.
