Have so few people really seen this?

It's a surprise, I found it to be a very high quality film. I don't know about accurate, but as a whole I thought it was excellent.

I actually had no idea such a film existed. I caught maybe the last hour and a half or so on TV last night, it wasn't too bad. Some nice make-up effects too.

I LOVE the technical aspects of this film in terms of photography, lighting, sets, costumes, make-up, etc. Great acting as well of course. This is so much better than most biographies I have ever seen.

Bought the DVD sometime ago. I'll get to see the earlier half of the movie.

Barely any. Hadn't even heard of this. I was just skimming IMDb!

This film didn't seem to get the release it deserved, and it's pretty much forgotten seven years later. I don't think people really knew what to make of it – I thought it was going to be a comedy, despite the title. I was extremely impressed by it. Very strong script and performances here.

Indeed. I could see a lot of Peter Sellers' fans being very put off by this film. More than anything, they are probably put off by the "real" Peter Sellers, at least as portrayed here. It certainly runs counter to the lovable, benign, zany characters he played. At least the "Death" in the title here suggested this movie wasn't going to be all buffoonery. In fact, there was very little of it, outside of his roles.

This is a remarkably deep "warts and all" biopic that deserves to be seen by Peter Sellers' fans as well as those who appreciate quality storytelling. I cannot say whether it's fully accurate, but I find the approach a refreshing change from fawning films about pop-culture heavyweights.

It’s a good movie and it deserves a bigger audience. But at the same time, it’s a tough sell. Most people who are not Peter Sellers fans (and how many of them are left?) are not going to go out of their way to see it. I’d say you need at least a passing familiarity with the movies Sellers appeared in to get the most of it. And of those people who are Peter Sellers fans, many of them are going to be put off by what is quite a scathing critical portrayal of the man.

So you can see how the audience for this movie might be somewhat limited. Which is a shame and an injustice, of course. A lot of good movies get overlooked.

On May 21st it'll be 20 years since this was released. It's still talked about, just not on this site. Accuracy doesn't seem to be the point of it, but a peek into the psyche of mr. Sellers. The book was nasty, the film is rather interesting, if narrow.
