was the incident with Edwards true?

I was shocked in the scene at the party where Sellers tries to destroy Edwards reputation. Was it true? did that actually happen?

I read Peter Sellers' biography "Mr Strangelove" by Ed Sikov. Sellers was a real prick to everyone. So I would guess it's true.

I've never read or heard of that incident so I'm inclined to disbelieve in it. I think since they're also implying in that scene that this is not only Peter's big comeback to the role (which is wasn't, he was Return of the Pink Panther before this (although it is tied up in legal issues which is why it's never in the box sets)) and his only sequel to the Pink Panther when in fact it's number 5 in a series that in total had 11 films with Sellers in 5, 6 if you count Trail which is debatable.
Anyway point being is that the film plays fast and loose with events. I think the idea of that scene was more to show how turbulent his relationship with Blake Edwards was. Also how despite being in 5 of them he said in interviews he didn't like the Pink Panther films. He and Edwards kept coming back to the series because they always made money and it would allow them to do other projects that would almost always do less well financially.
The truth is they COULD have done an entire film of just him and Edwards' relationship while making their films. I certainly always wish there were some more film scenes focused on that but there's not enough time and I think they still manage to get the point across that those films and that director were a big part of his life and career. As a big Pink Panther fan I just would have liked to have seen a little more.
