Loved this movie.

An original atmosphere, good action, Takeuchi and Endo both ruled in this movie.

I agree. This is a great action film. It has everything: rock 'n' roll, big guns, betrayal, revenge, tender moments, hysterical scenes.... I have to rank it up there with the DOA movies. This is definitely in my top 10 Miike films.

I have to admit i bought this only for the fact that it was directed by Miike and the guy on the cover was covered in blood. The best part of this movie was when the lead beats up the guys in the garage. The end...with the rocket launcher...was dissapointing. Other than that it had some good moments. But the action was sub-par at best. Its not even very violent. maybe thats just me but i've seen much more violent movies...Die Hard comes to mind for some reason. Die Hard was much more violent than this.

Why would it being violent matter? To be a great action film does not mean intense amounts of violence. Izo was the most violent movie I have ever seen but by no means a great action movie. The bit in the car park was good and Im glad it turns you on to watch some guys get tortured to death by a crowbar but I think ure missing the point a bit with this film

reply

ok fine, it wasn't a good action movie. Does that make you feel better. At anytime in my post do i mention being turned on by that scene? No, no i didn't. But aparently you were thinking of getting turned on while watching that scene. I don't think "tortured" would be the right word to use for that scene. The phrase beat the hell outta would have worked just fine. Now about te violence. When i think Miike i think of violence and insanity. Just from the cover of the box you'd expect the movie to be violent. Isn't the "action" of a "action" movie violence anyway? A violent movie does't make an action movie. I guess your basing your post off of my comparison with Die Hard. I'm jsut thinking. Die Hard is rated R, this is not rated(NR). To me a movie that is NR has to have something in it to justify not being given a rating. Violence just kinda pops into my head since the guy is covered in blood and Miike is the director. And by the way, your a jackass and i don't like you

reply

"Unrated" usually means they just didn't bother submitting it to be rated. It has nothing to do with content.

reply

^^^ Exactly. The MPAA didn't rate it, therfore it's not rated. Also, nowhere is it said it has to be violent. Yakuza films aren't often all-out gorefests or action-packed with gunplay. They're usually violent, but not over-the-top. And the name Takashi Miike doesn't mean sick and twisted violence contained within. Watch Sabu and that preconception will be wiped clear.

I have to agree. I was wholly disappointed in this movie after seeing "Ichi The Killer". My friend has seen "Audition" and "Visitor Q" and he said "Deadly Outlaw Rekka" is Takishi Miike's weakest movie in terms of violence. Overall, it had a few decent moments. I don't regret buying it for $9 but anymore than that and I might be pissed.

The movie was great, when I saw it, I didn't know it was a Miike movie. Ichi and Audition I heard about from my freind Mico. So I rented Ichi, IT WAS AWSOME! I went out and bought it along with Audition and Visitor Q... though I hadn't seen either. Reeka was very good, alittle boring at certain parts, but I rented thinking Sonny Chiba would have a bigger part... oh the dissapointment... so much *beep* disapointment... but it was still a damn good movie, my suggestion is rent it first.

I think Miike is ok. I've seen Ichi and Izo and wasn't particulerly blown away with either. However, I thought this movie was fantastic. Just the right amount of violence. Coolest main charector I've seen in a while. and some of the coolest bad guys ever in my opinion. (I've refering too the two assassins.) Great soundtrack & pace too. I give it a 10/10

a great film for Miike fans. He always knows how to pull out a one of a kind ending & this probably has to be one of my favorites.

Not trying to be a d*ck here but I love how people claim to be such hardcore Miike fans yet they're dissappointed that some of his films arent as violent as Ichi The Killer. Takashi Miike has a very large body of work and has made many different kinds of films from different genres.
In my opinion Ichi the Killer is far overrated. Its a pretty cool flick and has some WILD stuff in it but its chock full of CGI and the plot just seems kind of weak to me (just my opinion).

Personally my favorite films made by Miike are:
Gozu
Dead Or Alive 2 Birds
Happiness Of The Katakuris
Fudoh: The New Generation
Dead Or Alive Final
Agitator
One Missed Call (yeah yeah yeah i know its mainstream and similar to Ringu but i thought it was pretty cool)
