Questions about the ending (major spoilers)

"Death is part of a man's training"

At the end, after the clash we see the two assassins having a nice meal together, then we see our two main characters getting some drinks from the vending machines. After they leave, we see the former young subordinate come in.

Who won the final battle? were they all dead? How bout the young former member who fled, what was the significance of him showing up at the very end?

Your thoughts and interpretations?

typical Miike craziness ;p nah he was trying to convey something, Im not sure what exactly, it could be one of those endings that is open to a different interpretation for everyone. Ive thought and thought and this is the one Miike movie I am not really sure what the ending means, although it is very cool, and great song playing.

Well, when they clash at the end, the screen goes black and we hear a bang from the lead pipe.

I believe they all died......Death is part of a man's training.......

I think they all died because when the former member appears at the end he doesn't even notice Riki

I don't find the end conusing at all. They all lived. We didn't see the fight, but we saw the results. They beat the crap out of eachother. The reason the former member didn't see Kunisada is because he went to get a soda right after they had left. Simple as that.

I think Miike just wanted a simple ending, and like all his movies, he wanted to say something. Showing the former member alive is saying that maybe you don't always have to be so loyal. If the boss offers you money and tells you to leave because you might get killed, then take the money and leave. I know it's not very deep, but it's different than what you see in most gang movies.
