This was an excellent historical fiction series ( spoiler )

I just finished whole Hornblower series. I must say it was excellent in most things. Acting was high quality. Production values and historical details were impressive and well detailed. You get into 19th Century Naval Warfare , Naval Culture of Royal Navy in that period with Revolutionary/Napoleonic Wars and its politics , developments at background. My only complaint is towards last episodes it became too much like an action series. ( Just like in Star Trek Captain and his first officer accompany to every shore party in enemy coast )
I would like to see a Hornblower episode with Battle of Trafalgar or maybe Horatio Hornblower meeting with his namesake Admiral Horatio Nelson but unfortunetely that is wishful thinking. Still I hope they do a few more episodes , last chapters in Hornblower's career where he gets into trouble with El Supremo in South America , meeting Lady Barbara and his attack on French squadron in Marseilles and his escape from France through land...( though these events were covered in "Horatio Hornblower" movie made in 1951 starring Gregory Peck and Virginia Mayo )

Hornblower did not fight at Trafalger, but he may have played a small role. ;)

Yes, absolutely excellent, wish they'd make more. It was a good thrill to watch for a historical buff like myself. ahhh

I agree about the action parts; I hated every time a swashbuckling scene came up. I enjoyed much more the ship-to-ship battles with tactics, maneuvering, etc

I know the ship has sailed...but I keep hoping for someone to reboot this...Ioan is still within age range for the rest of the book series stories to be told!
