you know... im still waiting for an answer if you guys are thinking that i've forgotten :P

Gee, we were all hiding in here hoping you would forget! :) Seriously now, this is a very lyrical film; i.e., it creates meaning out of images, just like poetry does with words. Those who get easily bored by poetry may in fact fall asleep while watching this film. Be that as it may, one possible way to read what you mention is that the protagonist (Phillipe) gets free from the burden he carries, and by extension, the image is also a stringent commentary about all things commonplace for humans. The man floating in outer space experiences a place devoid of gravity. Isn’t that refreshing and liberating?

ahh, i see. i never thought about it like that. the way poetry is with words is the way this film is with images. thats really interesting.

anyway, thanks for your help

Doesn't he float to the "Dark side of the Moon?" I recall reading a review where the two brothers represent the moon. The main brother, whom we follow, represents the dark side, taking all the haunting memories of his mother and living with him, scarred, just like the "dark side" of the moon (explained in the intro).

So, in the end, doesn't he float to the dark side of the moon? The side in which he represents? I'm just throwing it out there.

It ties up with Tsiolkovsky's prediction from the beginning of the film, that some day man would walk and live in wightlesness on the moon, which would be the ideal refuge for those who find life heavy.

I think they came up with the floating ending becaus of the whole theme in the film. Also I think it ment that the main character felt free from his troubles. And also could have something to do with him winning the message sent to space :)
