You know how if you get an ear infection it can mess up your equilibrium? I'm sure that is at least part of the reason. I would imagine that the swelling that would occur would cause the same problem.

I'm really not too sure what you guys are talking about. There's a shot where Braddock's corner man puts an iced coin on his ear because it was cut in the fight, which happened often, especially with older style gloves. It's to keep down swelling and stop bleeding. They still do it, especially around the eyes? but they use a thicker steel disc.

shareI've never heard of cutting the ear before. I know they cut the eye lid but that's not first aid. It's meant to clear the boxer's eye so his vison is not obstructed by the swelling. After the fight they do proper first aid.
