How They SHOULD Have Done It

i think what they should have done is done this series the same ways "Young Indiana Jones" was done. they should have made it a "prequel" to the original series, tell us about things Macgyver did while he was being raised by his Grandfather, shown us an episode with his biological parents dying in that car accident (maybe in a flashback), show us how gained all his knowledge and how he survived, in short shown his BACKGROUND! i think that would have made a more successful series and prompted WB to be more likely to pick it up as a SERIES. what does everyone else think of that idea?

Not a bad idea. I do maintain that the idea they had was solid but My feeling is loose the nephew aspect Macgyver in modern times (sadly with a younger actor) doing what Macgyver does best.

The pilot from what I saw was good. Jared Paladacki is actually a great macgyver.

I would of prefered to see a distored guitar driven version of the classic theme as opening.

many feel Macgyver shoudl only be played by Richard Dean Anderson. While I love his performance. I'm sadly not convinced that Macgyver is one actor character. Like 007 i feel the right actor could do a good job.

Wolf Did you see the clips from the pilot

Mac was raised by his mom, not his grandfather. It was his father and grandmother killed in the accident.
I like the idea of a young guy having to live with the shadow of his Uncle MacGyver over him though, even if it doesn't really make biological sense with repsect to the original.
If they showed us MacGyver's background it would have to be set back in time, probably in a boring minnesota town, and there would be lots of conflicting aspects from the original show (which pretty much put in a new aspect of his past whenever it was convenient to that week's episode), and lots of random girlfriends (who grow up to turn evil or die or need full-grown MacGyver to save their life).
