WB never gave it a chance...
...which is amazing to me, because the WB okayed shows like "Cleghorne!", "The Lone Ranger", (which had Clayton Moore spinning in his grave) and "Tarzan".
The WB needs to understand that "MacGyver" is a cult classic with a cult following... so the ratings (initially, anyway) would have been through the roof. However, the WB also has a very specific "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer/Dawson's Creek" age demographic they target and will only cater to. So, perhaps we're better off not getting to see the teen version of MacGyver whose highlighted hair is always perfect. I simply don't understand why the WB only makes shows full of teenagers and kids in their early 20's.
There's also talk of casting the new James Bond with a 21-year-old pretty-boy "heartthrob". That's one thing MacGyver had in common with James Bond: They were both young enough to run, jump, fight, etc... but old enough to have the experience to survive. Both of them sported "rugged good looks".
Sorry... I digress.
I think there should be another MacGyver series. But it SHOULD include Richard Dean Anderson. I know he doesn't want to "take a step backward" in his career, but if you pay him enough, I'm sure he'll be more than happy to do it. Focus on the stories, the characterizations, the plot. Not the clothes, the hair, and the cool sayings.
Give a new generation of kids a role model to look up to. Jeesh...
