MacGyver's Nephew

Sorry that will not wash he was a only child so how can he have a Nephew?
How will they explain this?

reply

They don't need to - as the show won't be produced... :-(

Even if they did produce it, it still would have been goofed up. The OP was right. Mac was an only child, and fan of the original would have known that.

It's too bad that they didn't produce the show though. I would have liked to have seen what they would have done with it.

"This is the beggining of my story and the end to others."

reply

Maybe they say "nephew"just like Huey, Louie and Dewey were Donald duck's "nephews"- i.e, bastard children he had with Daisy duck.
Or maybe he's just Angus MacGyver's Cousin's son, therefore making him a nephew, and yet still keeping Angus an only child.

Either way, who cares? I like the concept, and I would have loved it if they had picked it up. Lousy WB execs...

reply

If it was his cousin's son - it would still be Mac's cousin. Nephews are sons of your brother or sister, or your spouse's brother or sister's sons.

reply

maybe you are right he had a son as we find out in the last episode so what if the lady he hooked up with had a sister or a brother then again he does hav the name clay mcgyver hence he has to be on his side. confusing aint it

reply

the series Young Macgyver could just be a very large "plot hole" and not to be considered "Canon" at all

reply

Gotta love douche bags troll, I laughed at it.

u said it was kirk russel, its kurt russel ----------- RDA rules!!!!

Instead of making up a nephew for MacGyver they could have made a series that showed the adventures of his son Sam before he met up with Mac. At least this way they could have been faithful to the original continuity. Just a thought.

reply

Yes, MacGyver was an only child, but I think the nephew angle could have worked - making the nephew the son of a brother MacGyver didn't know he had until much later in his life - his father's son from a previous marriage, whose mother remarried and the son was adopted by his stepfather thinking he was his real father until he finds out the truth, or a son by a previous relationship.

reply

MacGyver has a sister, this is revealed in the first season, i can't remember the episode title.

reply

Hey... I was just watching the pilot of Macgyver season 1 and he says "Relax, I have a date on Sunday. I'm playing ball with my little brother." I don't have a clue where they say he's an only child(it's been too long since I watched it all) but in the pilot, that's what he says.

reply

The "Pilot" also had him using a gun (willingly and skillfully) and asking another to use one in his own support (for cover fire)... as well a few other things that (to a much lesser degree) go against what the character of MacGyver was established to be in the series.

This is a common effect of pilots (even to this day), but pilots are usually not seen. The point of a pilot is just to sell a show's premise, not actually be the show. Between the production of a pilot and the going into production on a series you often see all sorts of changes, from big things like new actors and characters to little things like small technical things about the existing characters (like family history or common ticks).

Look at the cool new show Heroes (which I am loving). The 90 minute pilot that was shown at Comicon had an entire terrorist sub-plot that included a "villain" with radioactive hands and tied all the heroes together into that. Luckily they did away with that whole plot by the time they re-edited the plot (with some new scenes shot) to become the first episode of the actual show. They even moved some character introductions out of the first show and saved them for later episodes.

MacGyver actually had far fewer changes than most shows seem to go through, but nothing seen in the pilot can truly be seen as "cannon" to the series. MacGyver is officially an only child, because it was said in the series proper. With the DVDs out now it should be relatively easy to find the episode we find this out in (but I am not going to go back through mine and watch them all again just to make this post).

to add to this - Dana Elcar played a character named Andy Colson in the pilot_

Episode 2 and there after - he was known as Pete Thornton_

And I believe both "characters" worked for the Phoenix Foundation - except that that Thornton was primarily a desk manager and the Colson character was a field agent - but the tone of the Foundation as I recall was very different from the pilot to the rest of the series_

reply

I believe that was a reference to the "Big brother" program... y'know, where an older person mentors a younger, disadvantaged child? Mac did that kind of stuff all the time. It's not necessarily a biological little brother.

reply

i didn't care so much about the nephew thing though ohnestly i felt it would of been smarter to do the 007 ignor Macgyvers season finale and start the show in 2007 with Jared Paladacki Playing Angus macgyver'

but meh

I lvoed what i saw of the pilot for young macgyver

regardless of who exactly he was or how he was realted to mac

i liked how in the feild he was just macgyver

and the scene in the elevator that was priceless

reply

That kid he had date with on sunday was not his real brother, not in flesh and blood, he was just a afroamerican orphan (probably) who MacGyver took care of;) It is stated earlier in the Pilot, when the little kid says something about them not being able to be brothers and stuff.

You're not pleasant, when you're like this, Rodney.**I'm always like this.**My point exactly.

reply

yeah, I don't see how people would think it was his real brother, what with the kid being black, and seemingly having no previous knowledge of where Mac lived. Doesn't really add up.
