Has anyone else...

...ever seen a television show as unfunny as this?

reply

It's a love or hate thing, I suppose. I can see how it could be seen as an immensely pleased with itself, footlights-type in-joke, and some of it is a straight rip-off of the likes of The Day Today ("...embarass the vegetables"), but I love it. Grant is brilliant.

For smugness, I think the likes of Absolute Power and The Thick Of It are worse.

Caught a bit of this for the first time the other night - chuckled a few times, but couldn't help thinking 'isnt this just Cook Around You?' (see what I did there? Geddit??? . . .)

reply

...good one.

For a second I thought there WAS a programme called Cook Around You.

Richard E. Grant is a very lucky man. He made one good (well, excellent) film and since then he's made a career out of playing... well, himself.

My whole family loves it. I know that I did see one episode that seemed flat, but other than that we roll around laughing watching it. I show it to my friends, most of them love it. One did not like it, but since she does not cook at all(or ever watch any cooking shows), she might not have understood all the absurd terms they were using.

Its too bad there are so few episodes, I've seen them all by now and although I snap to attention everytime my PBS station inserts one at the end of some dull Mystery repeat at 1am, I am getting a little bored with some of the jokes.
If you didn't like this then you probably hated ABFAB. They are similar in that they lampoon the "BoBo" mentality ( Bourgeois Boehemian). Although ABFAB has a lot more physical humor, the real bite there as in Posh Nosh lies within exposing the absurdity of being "hip" or "chic".

reply

I think it is hysterical, myself. The biting satire is too much fun.

What's....this....ruckus?

reply

since humor is rather subjective, my question for skimshow is, what shows do you find especially or sharply funny?

reply

I like the show and it's only about 15 minutes so it doesn't get stale. I especially like Richard E. Grant and if you look closely at their expressions, then I think you get the comedy.

reply

OP is clearly one of the type of people they're parodying in Posh Nosh.

Does the UK's NHS cover emergency stickoutofassectomies? ;-)
