cut/uncut version...

i 'tried' (but failed) to watch the cut version (running at 88 minutes) - i could tell it was horribly edited, so i refused to watch it because it seemed so stupid (not to mention that it felt rushed and at times made no sense...). ive just managed to get a hold of the 'original' version, but haven't watched it all the way through yet (just skipped to a few bits to see how much was cut from this version, for the american audiences...)

my question is 'what gives'? why was it edited so harshly... ive seen movies that have been tightly edited, but in this case, some of the cuts were so obvious, it really ruins the film. imdb (on the 'alternate versions' page..) claims it was done to 'tighten' the action scenes, and help the film make more sense...which i think is absolute bullsh*t.. ive never seen an 'edited' film make more sense than the original, or have better character development. its quite possible to have tighter fight sequences, but in this case it wasn't so. imdb also contradicted itself: at once time claiming the cut version to be virtually unwatchable, and then goes on to say the ORIGINAL was unwatchable before it was cut..., and the edited version makes it a much easier film to watch... i cant really believe that, because of how horrible the edited version was...

usually when they edit things or cut things out, it always makes it worse..ALWAYS they try to change what audience will watch it..its meant to be for the good but it never is, the sad fact is we will have to live with that and find the uncut versions unless we invade the people that cut the scenes out, work under cover and stop them from editing stuff out

The editing in this movie to make the US version is completely insane. 2 major characters go from hating each other to dating. Why? Who knows! They cut that entire 10 minutes out of the movie!

Maybe the worst HK->US editing butchery ever.
