Helen's boyfriend = spike?

Hi there,

I just watched the movie and I was amused with how much Helen's boyfriend looked like Spike (from Buffy). Was this made of purpose?

For those who don't remember it's quite at the beginning when the fat guy (Helen's boyfriend) was cheating on her on the restaurant.

I couldn't find anything on it so maybe the director wanted to make that joke.. i don't know.
