Wrong message to kids watching

i wasnt impressed with the message.. friends who saw it told me about the story line. i feel strongly about not advocating animals in circuses. I nthis day and age, we need to be teaching the new generations to respect the animal kingdom. there just should not have been a "circus" storyline where all the animals are having a blast (animals in circuses are miserable) I hate that this movie depicted animals choosing the ""amazing"" circus life over living free in the wild.. I am sure the animation and all that is highly and glamorisingly addictive but the message its just so wrong. Dreamworks are in such a great position to teach kids positive things about animals and about our planet but they glamorise animal exploitation instead and glamorise all the bad things..I was a massive fan of the original where they seek their jungle homes..hm..Anyway i guess i need to see it to really judge but i am so far boycotting it when i heard they glamorised the circus life.. Shame Hollywood film makers.. thoughts ??

You asked for some thoughts, so here are some; There's a part to play for the parents as it is rated PG; One can assume that a parent would teach a child these basic things, as well as the fact that animals actually do not talk, nor do they possess the displayed intelligence. These movies do what humans do continuously: the animals are highly anthropomorphisized. This is also something that has to be taught children; the depicted animals (or robots or appliances) may act human, but they are not.

When I read your contribution I must say I did not for one moment think children would get a false message from this, although I too am opposed to imprison and/or enslave animals. Heck, I even disapprove of the whole 'pet'-thing. In my opinion there's something fundamentally wrong with people who feel the need to be boss or 'owner' of a lower life-form. As a lower life-form it still is nothing less (or more) than a human being, and humans cannot be owned (anymore) either.

You see I am quite explicite about this, but I still enjoy the 'animal' movies from Disney and Pixar a lot!
Let us be happy they animate them nowadays, I can only imagine the real animal abuse in the old days when filming productions like 'Tarzan' or 'King Kong'...

Don't forget, the main purpose of these movies is entertainment, also for kids, and why not turn it around and take these movies as an exellent opportunity to educate your youngsters?

I'm not impressed with people preaching about movies they didn't even see
