Ukrainian Language/Immigrants Not Russian...
Just for the record the language spoken among the immigrants who try to enter Germany is Ukrainian not Russian. It sounds similar but it's a different language. Excellent film, BTW.
In the movie, the langauge the immigrants speak is Russian, with not a single Ukrainian word. I can assure you, being a Ukrainian myself :)

Did it ever happen in this film that Poles and Ukrainians were just talking to each other, both in their own native language?
Try to have a conversation with a German guy. You speaking English, him German. I doubt you would understand each other. That's the same thing about Slavic languages. A large family, but deep differences. I know serbian, russian, and a bit of polish. These are truly different languages. I can understand a few words in Ikrainian or Bielorussian, yes, but I couldn't talk to them, understand them, that's just not possible. They can't have a conversation this way.
