Yeah, I watched it. I was thinking of John Oliver, but still the many weeks Maher skips, and the whole month of December ... and I think another month off too during the year. It is like Carson when he used to have guest hosts and everyone hated it.
I have to admire Maher in that he hosts these shows live, and has the different phases of the show, plus Overtime. He puts himself out there in a way I think few consider, but when he slips and says something that offends some he is treated as if he planned it. I think it must be hard to do that show and he does a pretty good job.
I was being sarcastic saying he was lazy. I'd like him to do the show every week or more, but have some different people on. For example having Grover Norquist as a semi-regular and never asking him about the things he has said and done, just allowing him to seem like a nice normal guy, which he isn't, is not helpful to his political causes at all.
