why do people obsess over J-Lo's acting?

I just dont get it as I actually think shes a fairly decent actress. Maybe not oscarworthy but she certainly can hold her own. She acts in a way that doesnt draw too much attention to herself so in other words nothing dreadful. Shes great in comedy films like Monster In Law and decent in drama. She was an actress before she was a singer, and if she had never had a singing career I dont think people would of even ever mentioned her acting skills. It is possible to be okay at both (shes not the best singer but her songs are entertaining and I can think of worse candidates to focus on who cannot sing...Katy Perry anyone?) If we are gonna talk about bad actresses what about Jessica Alba, Cameron Diaz, Kate Hudson who do the same crappy fluffy films time after time and are never gonna get oscars yet they never get spoken about!

She was great in Out of Sight (the sexiest film ever?), and I heard she was good in this, so I came here to find out more, but after the J-Lo name change (WTF) she made it hard to give her acting much credibility. The tabloid stuff, the selling perfumes and other crap - it's all baggage that kills an actress's believability. I think that it's just as important what an actor does off-camera than on, and sometimes she's been her own worst enemy.

If she had just focused on acting instead of the other crap and stayed away from the romcoms, I think by now she would've been regarded as a great actress, maybe with an Oscar nomination, instead of as a soulless brand.

I agree with you JasonCav... it's unfortunate because JLo is a pretty good actress, very natural. (Though I have to say that The Wedding Planner was kind of funny lol).

Ppl just like to nik pick, because JLO was really good in this movie.

I don't know. She's no actress, but I was surprised by how good she was in this, especially in the second half.

It isn't the first time I've been surprised that her acting was okay, as was the case with U-Turn and Out of Sight. Most movies she's done would have been unwatchable no matter who the lead actress would have been.

An Unfinished Life would have been cast better with, well, any actress, but she did okay in this. The weak point was the story, sappy and predictable to a degree seldom seen. Lasse Halstrom doesn't have a clue about Wyoming, life there, or the people there.

Like every other actor and actress J-Lo has put out some lemons, lol. BUT I have seen her do really well in some movies. This one, Selena, Out of Sight, etc. I think the people that are hating on her are people that just plain don't like her in general and won't give her acting a chance.

I do think she's a fairly good actress as well.

It's quite possible that some people have grown so accustom to the perfectionism of Hollywood that reality now seems unrealistic to them... In order to entertain the masses, actors have been forced to portray their characters beyond that of realism and they have to maintain a physical beauty that’s actually rare in society... To what end.??? Is it any wonder so many celebrities succumb to substance abuse, eating disorders, plastic surgery, etc. with all the outrageous demands we (society) place on them.???

I think some people actually critique actors to harshly, I think most times it’s the movie that they don’t like but they expect the actors to be able to entertain them through any situation or plot, so they blame the acting if they’re disappointed with the movie...

I've often thought it'd be a great experiment to film a real-life situation unbeknown to the individuals being filmed, not actors but regular people living out a regular day, and then play it back for critics who love to harshly critique actors... It'd be interesting to see if they STILL said it wasn't realistic enough or that it was bad acting when, in reality, it wasn't acting at all but real life....

In this film, her bad acting really stands out more against the veterans Redford and Freeman. Becca Gardner outacts her and she was introduced in the film.

I am watching this movie now and enjoying J-Lo in it, I like her understated simplicity. It's similar to her acting in Angel Eyes, which I liked much better, but in Angel Eyes she is stronger and takes control of her situation. Here she is burdened with her past and has a long struggle to regain her sense of self-worth. It's a pleasure to watch her again. Each to his own taste...

I think it irks people that she is an awful actress, yet she continues to star in so many movies. Apparently she can get these parts because there are enough idiots willing to watch her "act". And "gonna" is not a real word.
